Jo Gregory is a war orphan, one of countless victims of the 20th Century’s first genocide, the massacre of the Armenians. Found in an orphanage by a war correspondent, who tells her story. As a result, she finds relatives among the Armenian community in Massachusetts. But Jo dreams of the man who found her and of a career in journalism. She travels to Chicago and works her way through journalism school. In the Chicago of the roaring 20s, Jo learns her trade and when World War II breaks out, she is sent to cover it. First, she writes from Berlin, later from Ethiopia. Her career booms even as the career of David Driscoll, her mentor wanes. She must choose between David Driscoll, and Ted Kahn the handsome young man who loves her.
